FAQ

ARTWORK

What kind of art is needed for screen printing?

For best results, all files need to be submitted in Adobe llustrator, vector based and in eps or ai format, with all fonts converted to outlines.

If a raster file on Photoshop is submitted, it needs to be created at a minimum of 200 dpi at or close to the finished size.  Include all linked placed images as separate files, photos or art.   Do not embed tiffs or placed images into Illustrator.  Publisher, PowerPoint, Word, Excel and MS Paint are formats that are not camera ready.  We will be glad to give you a quote on separation charges and redraw fees if needed.

Note:  A raster file is an image that is composed of pixels.  These files are usually scanned or created in the Adobe Photoshop program.  Common file extensions are ps, psd, gif, tif and eps.  A vector file is an image made up of paths.  These files are usually created in Adobe Illustrator or Corel Draw.  Common file extensions are pdf, ai, eps and cdr.

What graphic file type should I send you?

We accept art files created in the following software: Mac Adobe Illustrator up to CS2 and Mac Adobe Photoshop up to CS.  Our art department primarily uses Macintosh systems and software and cannot guarantee the compatibility of artwork created in other platforms and software. If you are producing artwork using a higher version of the software than listed above, please save it back to versions listed above.

Most art files can be sent through e-mail up to 5MB.

We recommend e-mailing large files separately or in a zip file.

Another alternative is to provide them on a CD that is mailed or delivered to our office.  There is also a web site called www.yousendit.com that provides a service for sharing large files on the Internet.

Art files can be e-mailed to:  info@picturesquegraphics.com

What is a base?  What is flashing?

A base (also called an underlay or underbase) is a layer of white ink that is used as a foundation for printing on dark garments.  PMS colors will not be visible on a dark garment without an underbase.  Flashing cures the inks.

What are halftones?

Halftones are a series of dots printed to simulate a lighter shade of a solid fill area or a gradient.

What if I want a specific color match imprinted?

We can do an exact match on silkscreened and imprinted products, and we'll deliver as close a match as possible on embroidered items.

How is embroidery priced?

Pricing for embroidery is based on the number of stitches needed to sew a design, not the amount of colors.  Our digitizer can provide an estimate of the stitches if you provide the art work.  Estimations are made by viewing the design at size and taking the fabric type into consideration.  Stitch counts are dependent on the type of fabric.

If you would like a digitizing quote, please e-mail the art to: info@picturesquegraphics.com

What if I don't have artwork?

Our talented in-house designers are experienced in creating logos and other designs.

Do you provide samples?

Upon request, a pre-production sample will be done for a fee.

How are proofs handled?

We can send a free proof via email or also fax or send you a hard copy.
